Level 1 Overview

The First year the children in our Level-1 program are predominantly in the first grade.  This is the time when they begin to grow in their faith and start to develop a Catholic identity for themselves.  We begin to prepare them for their First Sacraments that they will receive in Level-2.

The students will learn their basic prayers;  the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, and the

Glory Be.  By the end of their first year of preparation of the Sacraments the children are expected to know these prayers.

Classes for Level-1 start up in October which is later than our other Levels 2-5.  The purpose of this is to give the children a chance to get acclimated to their public school schedule before we begin our program.

New parents to the program must attend a parent meeting prior to the start of classes.  At this meeting, you will receive all the materials that the children will need for the year.  Returning parents who have older children in the program will pick up their child(rens) materials at book pick up.  There will be two other parent meetings during the year that all parents must attend.

The first level of faith formation begins when children are usually are in first grade in school. There are exceptions to this when children enter the process later.

During this year Children begin to grow in their faith, building on what they have experienced in their homes; they are beginning to develop a Catholic Identity all their own.

We begin to prepare them for their First Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist which they will receive in Level 2.

Our students will learn their basic prayers:  The Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father and the Glory Be.  By the end of their first year of preparation for the sacraments the children are expected to know these prayers.

Our level 1 classes begin in October—this is later than our level 2 through 5.  We do this in order to allow the children in level one a chance to get acclimated to their public school schedule before extended their school day with Religious Education.

New parents to the program must attend a parent meeting prior to the start of classes.  At this meeting materials that the children will need for the year are distributed and a more in-depth explanation of the program is given.  There will be two other parent meetings during the year that all parents are expected to attend.

Parents who have already been through the program will be attending parent meetings as well but they will be meetings that will enrich their own faith formation.
