The Effects of the Sacrament of Confirmation

 

The gifts of the fullness of the Holy Spirit received in Confirmation deepen and perfect the graces we received at baptism.  It is accomplished through

–   a deeper rooting in the divine as the adopted sons and daughters of God
–   a firmer union with Christ
–   an increase in the gifts of the Holy Spirit
–   a more perfect bond with the Church
–   a special grace which helps us to spread and defend the faith in word and action as a true witnesses of Christ [CCC 1302-1303]

 

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are: Wisdon, Understanding, Counsel [Right Judgment*], Fortitude [Courage], KNowledge, Piety [Reverence], and Fear of the Lord [Wonder and Awe in God’s presence]. (Is. 11: 1-2)

* Bracketed names are alternate names for teh gifts as used in the Confirmation Rite.

The Fruits of the Spirit are: Charity, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Generosity, Faithfulness, Modesty, Self-control, and Chastity. (Gal. 5:22-23)
